The hip is similar to the shoulder joint in that it is a ball and socket joint with several muscles that effect its movement.  One of the more common problems in the hip is lateral hip pain sometimes diagnosed as “Trochanteric Bursitis”.  It is an inflammation of a small fluid filled sac on the side of the hip.  There can be several factors that cause pain to develop.  The butt muscles that attach in the region, whether they are tight or weak, can be a large factor in putting extra stress on your hip leading to its deterioration/pain.  Poor mechanics, trunk weakness, back problems, and poor footwear could also be contributors.  This is completely treatable, and manual therapy with exercise rehabilitation will aid in a faster recovery.
